Diaspora Peoples Place is volunteer run organization :)
The Peoples Marketplace is our flagship pop-up cultural fair, a curated experience that brings together diaspora makers, food vendors, artists, and organizers for a day of community.
Our mission is to strengthen diaspora communities by empowering creatives and entrepreneurs while cultivating community.
Since 2024, we have hosted several gatherings in Greater LA and Boston, welcoming more than 5,000 guests.
The Sumood Series was a three city series on the theme of sumood, perseverance, hosted in Fall 2024 in Anaheim, Los Angeles, and Boston. Each gathering offered music, spoken word, and a makers market. Attendees described the experience as “a big warm hug.”

Empowerment Fund
Proceeds from our gatherings are reinvested into the Diaspora Peoples Place Empowerment Fund, offering micro-grants and in-kind support to help creatives and entrepreneurs grow.
Selection process
Grantees are selected through an application about their practice, goals, and how they'd use the support.
Microgrants
Since 2024, the Fund has awarded $4,571.50 in cash micro-grants.
In-kind support
Since 2024, the Fund has provided 81 free or discounted booths (valued at $6,300) at our events.
